Hello all,

on Wednesday I made a daytrip towards the Market-Garden area. My guide was my good friend Tom Peeters who lives in that area.
At first we went to the dike on the island and visited the monument for William Dukeman. Dukeman was killed in the ditch which you can see behind the statue.

Then we went on to the Dutch military cemetery on the Grebbeberg. A.G. Huntjens was a resident of my hometown Noorbeek. He was killed during the battle of the Grebbeberg. Alomst 600 troopers have been buried here. It looks so peaceful now.

We moved on towards Opheusden and visited this 101st Airborne monument.

Oliver Horton bridge in Opheusden. Major Horton was killed in action on October 5th 1944 near this bridge.

Don Burgett used this shed during their time in Opheusden.

We followed the dike from Opheusden towards Arnhem. Polish paratroopers landed in these fields during Market-Garden.

The railroad bridge near Arnhem, the damage you can see has been done by troopers of the 501st PIR.

The bridge at Grave which was also taken intact.

The recently restored windmill in Eerde with the 501st PIR monument in front of it. Last September the windmill re-opened. Bobby Hunter and John Primerano were the 2 veterans who brought back life in the windmill.

Heeswijk-Dinther castle. Troopers of the 1st battalion of the 501st landed here by accident. A lot of them got killed because a lot of Germans were around.

The last picture is a picture of the 101st Airborne monument in Eindhoven.

After that I would like to take a picture of the bridge in Son while we were passing it, but I was unfortunate because the battery of my camera went down. Hopefully I can make a picture of it next time.

Regards,
Frank
