last year i've been visiting sites of the Hurtgen forest battle(south of Aachen), I don't know much about the battle, but it seems to be a forgotten battle. Everybody knows D-day, market garden, the bulge, but this was a major battle as well, there were over 50.000 casualties and Ernest Hemmingway did compare the battle with ww1 Passchendale.

Who knows more about this battle and would like to share his knowledge to honor these men who died in this horrific battle?

Well here's a good read, "The Battle of the Hurtgen Forest," by Charles Whiting.

Patrick, there are a number of existing threads about the Huertgen. I have posted a fair amount about it since my father fought there and is quoted in many of the histories of it. I also visited the forest with my father in 1994.

Here's the result of a search for "Huertgen Forest."

Filip, I really, really disliked it, as I discussed with Paul Sumner here:

Indeed you're right about some statements, for me it was the start for learning anything about the Hurtgen forrest, maybe why I mentionned it.

Your right Fiwi, Since it was such a disaster, it has not been as widely dealved into as opposed to the Bulge. The movie, Battle of the Bulge, was a stinker too, so they have that in common.

That is really such a bad movie. Battle of the Bulge in a desert without snow and cold. Who can make such a movie while the facts are so different.

Coincidentally, my father told me last night that he'd been contacted by Ed Miller, who wrote the Huertgen history "A Dark and Bloody Ground." (And who was a consultant on "When Trumpets Fade.") Colonel Miller said he'd been approached by the producers of Oliver North's "War Stories" about the Huertgen. It'll be interesting to see if anything comes of it.

I hope so. I have never seen a movie about the battle of Hurtgen forest. If that first movie is so bad, I really would like to see a good one about it so that people can see how the batlle was.

Unfortunately it's not my site, I know that the one who built this site is called Patrick, but it's not me.
Indeed a very good site, i was very lucky to find it.
