Yes you guess I could say I am a Filthy 13 fan, I have the book, and I've met Jake and Jack.
Sgt Thomas E "Old Man" Lonegran was a section leader and was from Bakertown PA. He jumped second out of the C47 behind Lt Mellen, was injured on landing, hid for 15 hours in a hedgerow before being captured by the Germans. At the moment of capture the German wanted to shoot him, but Lonegran (who spoke some German) convinced the soldier not to shoot. He was freed two days later when American troops liberated the aid station
