I was just wondering if any of our veterans here...or maybe a relative of a verteran happened to me in the 3rd Division? My grandpa was in it....and he kept all of his original stuff from it. I'd be really intersted in finding out some first-hand accounts from it.

It's the American 3rd Division Brian, it got my ears pricked for a second too.

It's as easy as posing the (right) question on your computer, and "mining" information, like military collecting, is very rewarding.

Didn't Wild Bill's brother, who died in Italy, serve in the 3rd Infantry Division?

The number 3 is magical, as is the number 7.

Yeah. I meant American- Sorry for not specifying. I'd actually like hearing about any of them. 3 is definitley a magical number. haha

I know that the American 3rd division was under the command of Dwight D. Eisenhower for a while. My grandpa actually had to report directly to him for one of the major missions. Pretty crazy stuff.

And yeah...I do think Wild Bill's brother was in the 3rd.

thanks all!

I have quite a bit of info on the 3rd on my site. We also have some 3rd Infantry Div vets on our forum too. Swing by if you have a chance. I know Joe for certain, who is a very active member, will be more than happy to talk to you directly!

No, not Bill's brother Henry, as EB has pointed out.

Have you used the SEARCH button? It's very effective.

It was Bill's brother-in-law Al DeFrancisco who served in the Rock of the Marne.

Wow! Thank you for those amazing links. They are great...especially one that gave a link to http://www.warfoto.com/

My grandpa saved a map showing the path that the 3rd Division took throughout WWII. I'll try and scan it in for everyone to see. Also some great pics my grandpa saved. The third division had quite the remarkable history in WWII. In the battle of Anzio, they suffered the most soldiers lost in any one day of battle. I remember my grandpa once telling me that he was one of only 5 or 6 people to survive from his company from that battle. I'm wish I could find out which company he was part of.
I know that he was part of the 1st Battallion, 30th regiment of the 3rd Infantry Division.

Another site to looks at is http://www.geocities.com/aco_30thir_3rdid/history.html
It has a very in-depth history of the 30th regiment itself, especially for WWII. It has two pages of history...so be sure to check both out.

One thing I found out was:
"After Racalmuto, the 3rd Battalion, U.S. 30th Infantry made the all time record breaking march(still held today) of 54 miles in 33 hours."

I really wish my grandpa were still alive so I could hear all those stories. I really regret not showing interest before.

Thanks for the info guys!
