The resolution (HR 2790) in the House of Representatives became invalid last month when the new Congress convened and the bill sponsor was not re-elected in his district.

However, the effort has begun anew. Rep Tim Holden of Pennsylvania has introduced H.R. 796 which, if passed, would authorize & request the
President to award the MOH to Major Winters.

PRIVATE BILLS AND RESOLUTIONS -- (House of Representatives - January 31, 2007)

---
Under clause 3 of rule XII, private bills and resolutions of the following titles were introduced and severally referred, as follows:

By Mr. HOLDEN:

H.R. 796. A bill to authorize and request the President to award the Medal of Honor to Richard D. Winters, of Hershey, Pennsylvania, for acts of valor on June 6, 1944, in Normandy, France, while an officer in the 101st Airborne Division; to the Committee on Armed Services.

So, letters to Congressional representatives are again needed, asking support for this bill.
Please write your congressman(woman) and request this support. Also letters to any of the members of the House Armed Services Committee, where the bill now rests, would be most helpful. Names and addresses are available at several of the government website, Congress.org. for example.

Over at the Major Winters forum we are asking that you stress the D-Day action, without reference to either the BoB book or miniseries. It
is important that you include the identifier, H.R. 796 in your letter.

Thanks so much in advance for the help that I know you good folks will provide smile.gif
