Good Morning All,
I was pleasantly surprised to hear Bill's and Babe's voices on my radio this morning when I got in the car to head out to work! They were on 1210AM, Philly's "Big Talker" with host, Michael Smerconish. It was a rare treat of about 40 minutes of recollections of South Philly, the war, family and their friendship over 63 years. In true Bill and Babe style, it even included discussion of how, in Bastogne last year, that Babe had to shell out 140 francs to "some 300 lbs. broad" to "take a piss" at the museum! He reminded "the broad" that they must have taken 5,000 pisses there for free!
Its always great to hear from the guys and I'm fortunate to be a Philly guy, and get in on these little local treats!
See you on the DZ,
Brig

I went on the 1210 homepage - link below - and asked them to add Bill and Babe's interview with the host (Michael Smerconish) to their podcast listings. This will allow anyone to download the interview to their MP3 player, or listen from their computers.
Hopefully, they will action the request.
I'll keep everyone appraised through this thread.

I just listened to the interview. It was everything you can expect from both Bill and Babe – captivating stories, honest and insightful views of where we are today, and a genuine friendship and love that comes through when you listen to them speak of not only each other but of their buddies.
I can’t wait to read the book... I might even purchase the audio book from ITUNES as well…

what a special treat... I was finally able to listen this morning. Thanks Brig for letting us know. How marvelous to hear their voices and hear their passion. We are so fortunate that these men were fighting for us! May we make them proud in how we live our lives. God bless you, Wild Bill & Babe.

I just finished listening to the interview with Bill and Babe. They make me proud to be an American. I have got to get Robyn and these guys to Charlotte for the library's Novello Festival of Reading. Based on the pictures from the signing, Bill looks good in blue, and I hope his health problems are behind for awhile. The one point that they brought up is the lack of patriotism in this country. I am only 49, but I remember when it became uncool to be patriotic. It is one of the biggest failures of my generation. Maybe it's because the greatest generation spoiled my generation rotton because they had so little that we end up taking for granted the sacrifices they made. I love my mom and dad, and miss them everyday, but they did spoil me, but I retain my patriotism. I am not talking the fake politician kind. I am talking about knowing the history of your country, the good as well as the bad, and realizing that we enjoy more freedoms than any other population in the world. You cannot major in history and not understand what a miracle it is that this country even exists! The founders of this country, especially John Adams were visionaries. What we need our leaders who have the interest of the country and the people at heart, not big business. Part of my job as a librarian is to reach out to young people and stress the importance of history. I do this by telling them everything has a history, the music, our clothes, but it is the lessons that we should learn that those brave men and women fought for that need to be repeated over and over again. God Bless Bill and Babe for sharing their stories.
