Some years ago, the Major sold some guns at a show in Pittsburgh. This looks like one of them.

I wonder why he sold the guns. He seems to have such an incredible collection of easy memoribilia.
That would be something to own but I'd rather it remained with Maj Winters.

Looks like the real McCoy. It appears to be his signature on the certificate. He did collect several guns after the war from surrendering officers in the area he oversaw, and maybe as he gets older he decided to unload a few.

I know matching serial numbers make the Lugar more valuable. My boss has one with all matching serial numbers down to the two magazines and the holster(rare). His is worth more the 5K. I would think this being a war trophy from the major is the reason for the +10 K.
