Dear Friends, a couple of weeks ago my good friend Shifty Powers of Easy co. 506th was diagnosed with cancer. Needless to say I was very worried about him and many of you will be too now you know this bad news. When I talked to him on the phone 3 weeks ago he sounded very depressed about the whole thing for obvious reasons. But since I live 4000 miles away from him there's not a lot I can do but be supportive to him and his family... Now, I just got of the phone with him 5 minutes ago and he sounded a lot better which is good news. More good news is that the cancer he is diagnosed with is treatable according to the doctors but, he still has to go through a lot of tests and radiation. The cancer is not in his lungs as the doctors first thought but behind his lungs pressing against the spinal chord which is very painfull........ So, I was thinking, maybe you guys could help me to help lift Shifty's spirits a bit and let him know we are all thinking of him. I asked his daughter, Margo, permission to make his address available on this site so you could send him a get well card. She agreed and thought it was a great idea. I know that each and every person that has ever met him knows what a great guy Shifty is. So send Shifty a card and show your support for a great man who deserves our respect. He would love it.....

Dear Friends, first things first... thanks for the huge support for Shifty. I just got back home from work and my mailbox is exploding!!! As some of you know I am a truckdriver and not home that much so I would like to apologise to all who were counting on a reaction from me. Here is the reason why;

When I asked for your support I included Shifty's home address as well but for some reason someone- I don't know who- has taken off the address from my post, I did ask for permission with Shifty's family and they had no problem with it. Now I have to answer like a million emails.....

I hope you'll still support Shifty and send him a card and I am sorry about this screw up..... nothing I could do cuz I can't get on the internet when I am on the road.

Inspite of all the good intentions , there has always been a large group that will take advantage of a vets condition to garner autographs and the family has too much else to deal with than to handle the many insincere requests.

Been out of circulation for a while, but this headline cought my attention. I am truly sorry to hear that Mr. Powers got cancer, especially since I lost my father to cancer only two weeks ago. Fortunately we live in 2008, and there's a cure for almost anything, if you get there in time. Mr. Powers is a fighter, he'll beat this. We all pray for him. Best wishes,

Hi everyone, I talked to Shifty's daughter Margo today and she told me that Shifty is doing better every day.He received a lot of cards from all over the world which cheered him up a lot. So thanks a lot for everyone's support so far!! It's much apreciated by Shifty and his family. It's still gonna take a while before he is completly recouparated but the overall outlook is positive.
