I love those Archives records, I bookmarked Liebgott's. I suppose everyone's searched them for all the guys. But I never quite managed to find Nix. Maybe if i searched California...

I always thought that one fit closest, but the "single" thing always threw me. When did he get married then?

Alot of them seem to have the marriage, or lack there of, wrong. For example Penkala's record says he is unmarried and same thing with Perconte when I am absolutely sure both of them were married at this point.

According to Bill's book only Perconte, some guy not Penk and Johnny Martin were married. However, a lot of guys married during their Taccoa days, including Johnny. Boyle married over in England so they could have married their girls while on leave. I believe Winter's book mentions Nixon's wife coming down for a visit. I will do a quick check tomorrow when I go back to work and see if I can track down a marriage record for Penk, etc.

All those answers in the Civilian Occupation field can be quite funny. "Warehouse foreman". Yeah, right, the same way I'm a "director" at my dad's production company. Liebgott's also threw me: "Cooks, except private family." Never quite figured out how to interpret that. He cooks for his mom and dad?

I checked Ancestry today, marriage records from Penkala's home state of Michigan are not available. However, I did learn he was of Polish descent. Perconte is a hard one to fine because the census takers could not get the name straight. As for Nixon, marriages for both New York and New Jersey are not on this database. However, I did find this:
* note they misspelled his first name.

Here's why there was no record of Nix's wife on his enlistment record:

According to the New York Times, Dec. 21, 1941, Katharine A. Page (daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hickok Page of Phoenix, Ariz.,), and Lewis Nixon 3d, were married Dec, 1941 in the municipal building.

Awesome! You won't believe how long I've been looking for that announcement! Thanks!
