I am starting work on a new BoB book entitled "In the Footsteps of the Band of Brothers." In this, I will be revisiting Easy's sites at Aldbourne, Carentan, Brecourt, Bastogne, and Eindhoven-the Island area.

My itinerary, if all goes as planned, Aldbourne Nov. 1-2. I will travel to Poole and take the Brittany Ferry across the Channel on Nov. 3-4. I will travel to Carentan Nov. 4 and stay there until Nov. 6. On Nov. 7 I will head for Bastogne and remain there for Nov. 8-9. On Nov. 10, it is off to Eindhoven. On Nov. 11 I plan to travel Hell's Highway, visit the Island and the Schonderloogt Arch before heading for Amsterdam and home on Nov. 12.

I have guides Paul Woodadge of Battlebus and Reg Jans to help me in Normandy and Bastogne, and WBG's own Bart Houx in Holland. If any of my other Dutch friends want to meet up in Holland, let me know. I am staying at the SANDTON HOTEL at STRATUMSEDIJK 23D.

On Nov. 12, I will be at the IBIS hotel at SCHIPHOL Airport, leaving for home on Nov. 13.

Nice goin', Larry! I'll be in Belgium touring the Battle of the Bulge battleground from stem to stern -- 10-31-11-18. Give me a shout and tell me your Belgian schedule. Maybe we can meet there when we missed meeting in Lancaster!! Best, BK

BK.

I plan to arrive in Bastogne Nov. 7 (coming from Normandy) and stay 2 days. I must leave for Holland on Nov. 10, after a brief stop at Beho, Belgium, where my late father-in-law's company was almost over run during the Bulge.

It's be great to see a friendly face In Bastogne. I am staying at the Hotel Collin in the center of town.

Well I'm happy to report that we all hooked up yesterday in Bastogne and spent a truly wonderfull evening...Forrest Guth, Larry Alexander, BK, Frank and his friend (name?), my husband and I, and some of my friends of the Major Winters forum: Reg Jans (the tour guide), Ronald Ooms and Ronald Stassen.

Here are my photos:

yeah, it was a great day. I enjoyed it a lot. Finally got the chance in meeting Forrest Guth. I missed him with only five minutes back in 2004 in Saint Mère Eglise.

Those photos gave me chills. Especially the one with Forrest Guth standing in the tree line overlooking Foy.
One day I'll be able to make this trip.
Thanks for posting those.

If you take the road: Bastogne-Luzery-Foy-Noville-Houffalize you will see the tank at your left side when you enter Houffalize.
Ronald
Ah okay. I always take the highway cos then I can really floor it. biggrin.gif

It will take about 15-20 minutes. When you're a fast driver you'll be there in 10-15 minutes biggrin.gif . (Like I did yesterday)

This afternoon, I had the pleasure and honour to meet Mr. Forrest Guth and Mr. Larry Alexander in the Ibis Hotel, at Amsterdam Airport. Appx. 12 hours before they fly back to the States. Larry had contacted me a couple of months ago, and asked me if I could 'guide' them around through Holland. I said "yes" of course, but unfortunally their schedule changed several times, and when the final schedule was there... I saw no possiblities to take a day off from work. How disappointed I was. Fortunally, Larry gave me a chance to meet them on their last stop in Europe... a hotel at the airport.

I know they have had a very intensive tour through Europe, so they must be very exhausted I reckenoned. I didn't want to make them even more tired, especially not Forrest, so I tried to make it short. Both Larry as Forrest are really nice men... and I thank them for taking the time to meet 'one last fan' before taking off to the US.

Larry showed me all the photo's he has made from Aldbourne to Amsterdam... and I had the opportunity to thank Mr. Forrest personally and talk to him for a while. I will never forget this. It was great.

Larry... I'm already looking forward to your next book. Write well!
And Mr. Guth... have a safe journey home and thank you again for making a little time for me!
