Actually we shouldn't forget C Company as well.

Can someone give me some more information on C Company, or where I can find something on them. A good friend of mine was with C. Compnay 506th, from the Buldge to the end of the war. He broke his back after a jump in France in 1945 (to keep his jump status). He remembers a First Sgt. DuPont, and Lt. Col Hester. Can anyone help me?
Thanks
Chris

I don't know of any books particularly about Company C, but here you can find books written by or about the 506th in WW2. Don Burgett's very fine chronicles of his war in Company A 1st Battalion, would tell the story of Company C as well.

http://currahee.hispeed.com/hiswwiibooks.html - Books about Currahees

You might want to leave a message on the Currahee site and see if anyone there might be able to help you.

http://currahee.hispeed.com - Front page of site, see the Contact button on left. Also, check out the E-Mail pages and see if anyone from C Company is listed with an e-mail address.

Good luck! BK

Thanks ssgtwildbillmasters and BK for your insight. I have done both though, I came across a picture of Col. Hester (1st Bn Co, I think)over the internet, but that is the only thing I came close on. I have seen pictures of other companies in the 506th but not C. The only other thing I can "attempt" to do is to try to find a currahee scrapbook, unfortunatelty my friend doesn't have one, and getting my hands on a copy might be next to impossible. After he broke his back after the jump, he never returned to the 506th again, plus everything he had was stolen, including some lugers and some "trinkets" he took off of Goerings staff car in Berchestgarten.
Thanks
Chris

Chris,

You should write to George E. Koskimaki, who lives in Michigan. You can find his address via www.whitepages.com. He has the address of Lieutenant Hassenzahl and I am sure many other C Company veterans.

For more info about C Company 506 PIR (and the story of Hassenzahl) see Patrick O'Connell's book "Beyond Valor", published in 2001. That book will definitely bring back memories to your friend. It contains the stories of many WWII Paratroopers and Rangers.

Did your friend also serve with C Company during Operation Market Garden? If so, I would like to ask him some questions if possible.

A C-47 was shot down on 17 September 1944, carrying Lieutenant Thomas Seibel of C Company and some 15 other troopers. Only three of them survived. Lieutenant Seibel was killed, the first officer of the 506th to be killed during Operation Market Garden.
