Today well coming home from school, my mom came in and said I had a letter. I opened it up, and sure enough it was from Dick Winters. I had sent him a letter about three weeks ago and I just got my response.
Dear Nathaniel:
Thank's so much for writing. It's great to hear from young people, like yourself, who are learning about history of our country. You write such a good letter, it's hard to beleive your 14.
On behalf of the members of Company E. thank you for your support. The response to the book and series continues tp surprise us. Off the top of my head, I would have to say I think the attack on Foy was on the 10th.
If you read again the book, Band of Brothers, by Stephen Ambrose, many of your questions will be answered. You will be able to compare the way the book depicted the stories with the way they were presented in the series. The book is closer to the truth.
Keep an eye on the History Channel. I have given them many interviews, some of which will be included in the new documentery entitled "The End of WW11". If you watch for the start Febuary 17th, it will enrich your knowledge.
My wife and I wish you a long, happy and usefull life.
Hang tough

Nathaniel, congratulations! I'm sure Mr. Winters was very pleased to receive a letter of appreciation from someone so young. I bet that was a wonderful surprise to hear back from him. Did you get a picture, too? It seems he and his wife do the best they can to answer every letter he receives. At his age, that's quite an amazing thing. I think if it were someone else, they might just write a few people back, or not respond at all. He seems to go out of his way to express his thanks to everyone that writes to him. He's quite an amazing man. I hope you save that letter forever!! Tuck it in your BoB book, if you have one, and save it for your future kiddoes!! God bless

Thanks. And yes, he did send a pic of him. It was a picture of him when he was in Holland out side Head quarters. You can see the pic in the book. He sent me one of those and it was signed.

Well that's terrific news, Nate. You should always cherish that letter and photo; keep it close, and make sure you pass it on to your children one day along with the knowledge of Dick Winters and the many others that never came home.

Congratulations and Greetings, Nate,
Having heard from Dick Winters, you now know the real meaning of the expression "officer and gentleman."
Welcome to the band,

Hello Nate,
Good for you! Mister Winters obviously was impressed by your letter and wrote back to you. He probably receives tons of letters and I can imagine he doesn't respond to all of them (lack of time, to much work etc.).
As Tom said, cherish this letter and picture and pass it on to future generations. These men deserve it to be rememberred!

Congratulations Nate - I received a reply to a letter I wrote the Major about this time last year and it is one of my most treasured possessions, along with the copy of the BoB book he so very kindly signed for me.

That is really exciting! He seems like such a nice guy. Mr. Winters has a website as well. www.majordickwinters.com
They have an online petition for the Medal of Honor for Mr. Winters on the website. There are over 5,500 signatures of support for him. Check it out. I signed it.

CONGRATS NATE! THAT IS SWEET. I HAVE BEEN WANTING TO SEND A LETTER TO MAJ. WINTERS FOR A WHILE, JUST TO THANK HIM FOR EVERYTHING HE AND HIS MEN HAVE DONE. I WAS UNAWARE THAT HE WAS OPEN TO RECIEVE CORRESPONDENCE. IF IT ISN'T TOO MUCH TROUBLE, WOULD ANYONE BE WILLING TO EMAIL ME HIS MAILING ADDRESS? I'M NOT SURE IF IT CAN BE DONE HERE ON THIS SITE, IF NOT MY EMAIL IS jpbarter@Hotmail.com
THANK YOU
JP

I have signed it too. Major Winters is, and always will be a brave and honourable soldier. Not surprising that the modern elites don't care about veterans, despite they start wars all over the place. I would like to see those politicians be taken into a patrol depp into enemy territory by the soldiers they send, and see what war is really like. At the least they could start honouring Major Winters and other veterans.

It's even more shocking that the people today in politics who seem to regularly dismiss the importance of the men who make sacrifices for us were born during WW2, or around that time... often the children of veterans. It seems as though sometimes the lessons are learned briefly at best, and time wears the memories of some upcoming youth and leaders..
