My father’s friend was a German National half German and half Jewish who emigrated to the U.S. in 1932 with his family to escape the Nazi's. He became a citizen after he enlisted in the Paratroops in 1942. He was a real hero in my dads regiment and later worked with the Dutch Underground. He passed through 101st lines in mid October and worked on Operation Pegasus with the Dutch Underground. He was found on the Eperwig the night of the Operation with two bullet holes in him execution style, one in his head and one in his neck.
Easy Company, 2nd Platoon (Off the top of my head for the platoon) went across the river and brought the British Paratroopers back who had been trapped after the collapse of Arnhem. After the war my father always tried to find out what happened to Ted. At the end of his life he found out his grave was in Hollywood. He would have loved to pay his respects. Last Summer I went with a trooper of the 504th who knew Ted and we said, a prayer over his grave. I have a picture of his grave on the page click below. Very interesting nexus between Easy Company, HQ1 Recon 504th(my dads unit) and The British Paratroopers at Arnhem. Don Malarkey was one of the Easy Company troopers who were on the rescue mission. I received a very nice letter from him.
