Let us not forget the 551st PIB whose men fought under inhuman conditions and underwent the heavy losses of the battle of the Bulge (with 509th).

The battle of Salm River Valley is less known than the siege of Bastogne, but allowed to stop the spearhead of the attack and the best troops of the führer.

IN memoriam:

Lt Col Wood Joerg CO 551st PIB KIA 7th January 1945.
1 Lt Joseph A Farren 551st Hq Co KIA 7th January 1945.

and many others...

Thanks, Mathieu. You have placed this post in the Cemeteries forum. Are these men buried in a cemetery you have visited? If so, perhaps you have a link to that. If not, then I will move this thread to Unit Histories with the others. Thank you. BK

I agree!! The 551st was a fine battalion! Lieutenant Richard R. Hallock, who served in HQ Company, was later transferred to A Company of the 504th and was captured in Hitdorf am Rhein on April 7th, 1945. He led an escape on May 15th, 1945.

I think Col Richard R. Hallock is dead. I'm looking for information about 551st HQ Company.
