Rep Curt Weldon ® 7th PA today introduced a resolution (HR2790) calling for the direct award of the Medal of Honor to Major Richard D. Winters of Hershey PA.
This is possible under section 3741 of title 10, United States Code. It asks for a waiver of time limitations under section 3744 of title 10 United States Code, or any other time limitation with respect to the awarding of certain medals to persons who served in the Army.
It is time to start writing, faxing or e-mailing your Congressman in support of this resolution. It is supported unanimously by the PA house delegation.
Thank You!

This is what MDW Administrator, Barry Poulter asks to keep in mind
for the letters...
Yes we want people to write, but lets get a few ground rules going
first.
In no special order
1. Hand written is best
2. Write to your Congress/Senate member first before others.
3. PLEASE DO NOT mention the HBO miniseries.
4. Do not mention Tom Hanks/ Steven Spielberg.
5. This is ONLY about the action at Brecourt Manor, we all know the
Major earned this medal on more than one occassion, however, he was
only nominated once, and THATS THE ONE we use.
6. Remember the Major never asked for this. WE are the people
pushing this forward, not the Major.
Daveshaw is working closely with Herm Clemens over the letter
campaign, and to that end, we have worked our 5 or 6 different
letters which members can use. These are all together in a word doc,
so anybody want them contact me I will send them through to you.
We are not trying to stiffle creative writing here, but these have
been approved by Herm Clemens, Daveshaw and all the Mod team, if you
do not want to use them, but write something yourself great, just
remember the rules above please. We want this to work, we only have
one chance, so lets try and get this right.
Thanks to all
Barry

I know I am going to look like the biggest dunce in town for asking a question like that but I would rather be educated on this. So when we write to our Congress Person besides the things you wouldnt mention for obvious reason like Tom Hanks & all that Hollywood what do you say? I guess I am having a huge brain fart here today Thanks Tony

Time for an update and some action! After more than 1 year Bill HR2790 is still stuck before the House Armed Services Committee...the members of MajorDickWinters.com are planning a mass email TODAY the 20th July! We hope to find some support here
So would all US members of this site email Rep. Duncan Hunter, the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, on the 20th July to ask him what is happening with HR2790 and when it will pass through the committee.
You can follow this up with a written letter, and also contact your own Representative, or other member of the House Armed services committee.
email at
http://www.house.gov/hunter/ and follow the email link
Lets all try and make another push, remember, compared to what the Major and his men did, this is nothing....we owe them this.
Thank you,
Linda and the MDW.com team

Linda,
Do you happen to have an e-mail address for Congressman Hunter? I tried to e-mail him through the link you provided, but it says I'm required to be a resident of his district in CA to e-mail him. If you provide an e-mail address, I'll be happy to support the CMOH push.
Thanks!

Please remember that the resolution is an official piece of business before the Congress of the United States. Any use of false addresses for the purpose of supporting this drive, is detrimental to it. It is not a publicity drive! To use such tactics lowers the dignity of the campaign and adds fuel to the opposition of it.
There has been some recomendations on other sites for non residents of the United States, to place the District of Columbia and its Zip Code , as their own. This is a misrepresentaion that insults the values of the man we support.
Please let the actions of 6-6-44 do the work and remeber the man who would not associate with anyone who did not use the values he fought for and cherishes.
