Hello all, i posted this question on another part of the forum (probably not the good one)...
I was wondering if anyone had a good picture of who were the officers of the company when they embarked for the d-day dropping?
I still really feel pretty confused about the Easy Company officers roster for the operation...
Typical infantry companies were supposed to have 8 officers, am i correct here?
A commanding officer, an executive commanding officer, 3 platoons leaders and 3 assistant platoons leaders... am i correct?
So, we have:
CO : 1/LT Meehan
XO : ????
Platoons leaders: 1/LT's Winters (1st platoon) + ??? (2nd) + Schmitz (3rd)
Assnt platoon leaders: 2/LT's Welsh (1st) + Compton (2nd) + Matthews (3rd)
Is that correct?
Also, who was LT Warren Roush who appears on the Easy Company roster for may 1944?
Who was leading the 2nd platoon?
And since the LT Schmitz was injured, who was leading the 3rd platoon then?
And a final question, how many sticks were there for the whole company? About 8 sticks, no?
If i am correct, that should be something like this:
- Stick 66 (jumpmaster: 1/LT Meehan), with HQ Section
- Sticks 67 (1/LT Winters) & 68 (2/LT Welsh), with 1st platoon
- Sticks 69 (???) & 70 (2/LT Compton), with 2nd platoon
- Stick 71 (???) & 72 (2/LT Matthews ???), with 3rd platoon
If anyone has more infos about this, don't hesitate to throw them in...

-Winters
-Compton
-Matthews
-Cappelluto?
Not a hundred percent sure, but some one will come around to tell you the whole answer.

Very interesting topic... I have a question.
When did Lipton become 1st S?
And who replaced him when his commission came through.

1/LT Capelluto was the pilot of the C-47 with the 1/LT Meehan stick, and that crashed on d-day, so he sure wasn't part of the 506th PIR. He was from the 439th TCG.
I think it was Floyd Talbert who replaced Lipton as 1st Sgt.
If someone has some little infos about the Easy Company officers roster, please, don't hesitate to share your knowledge...

Sheriff, thanks for posting those infos...
Are you sure about this "LT Sweeney" being the Company XO???
I found a "Patrick J. Sweeney" in the E Company general roster which lists ALL the ones who ever served in the company during WWII, with no indication of his rank, but i didn't found a trace of him being KIA in the 2/506 list... I also didn't find his trace on that E Company roster from may, 44 that was posted on this forum... So, all in all, i'm even more confused, ahahahah...
Anyone has infos about this man? Was he really an officer in june 44? Was in serving in the E Company at this time?
As for the squad leaders you mentioned in your list, my own list seems to differ slighty from yours... Here is what i got:
- 1st platoon: SGT's Christenson, Ranney & Martin
- 2nd platoon : SGT's Talbert, Malarkey & Lipton + SGT Guarnere (mortar squad)
- 3rd platoon : SGT Taylor & ???

Company 2IC (XO) Lt Nixon

Nixon was no longer a member of Easy Company at this time. I believe he was transferred after advanced infantry training was completed at Camp Makall in North Carolina prior to embarkation for England. Nixon was moved up to Battalion Staff and was 2nd Battalion S-2 during Market Garden. Harry Walsh was Easy's Excutive Officer at this time.

wasn't Ranney busted to private for his involvement of ousting Sobel? Did he retain his appointment as squad leader?

Sweeney was transferred into Easy Company along with Meehan after Sobel was removed. Winters came back as a platoon leader, but then before D-Day, Sweeney was transferred back out and Winters was elevated back to XO

Larrya, thanks for this great info...
So, this brings more questions... If Winters was elevated back to XO, was he also still leading the 1st platoon before D-Day (i don't know if it is possible at all, i'm just trying to guess)? If not, who was in charge of the platoon? And who was leading the 2nd platoon before the drop?

Lipton became First Sergeant shortly before or after Market Garden, I can't fully remember. I remember it from Replacements, but not when.
EDIT: Found it at
this link:
Smokey: "Hey, ya all! Listen up! I got us an announcement to make."
Smokey: "This here is Carwood Lipton."
Malarkey: "He's already married, Smokey."
Smokey: "This here is Carwood Lipton, the new Easy Company first sergeant!"
Dukeman: "Go Carwood!"
Smokey: "As befitting his position, he says he has to make an announcement."
Lipton: "Well, I hate to break the mood here, boys, but we're moving out again."
Just before Operation Market Garden.

Maybe this should be a new thread, and if y'all think so I will set it up that way.
Does anybody know who the chaplain(s) was/were who served Easy? What became of them? I'm thinking of the scene (I believe) in Carentan, where the priest is administering last rites under fire.
Thanks!

First off the Chaplains were not assaigned to Battalion or Company levels. They held a Regimental position. Which chaplain are you interested in?
Sherriff's game info is wrong. And Moose was with Battalion 2nd Battalion Heavy Weapons on D-Day.

Any of them. Easy must have been about half Catholic, at a guess. Do you know the names of any of the priests? What happened to them?
Thanks!

The Chaplains for the 506th were as follows:
- John S. Maloney He was a Major in Normandy and later made LTC. He won the DSC and was wounded in Bastogne. He was the Catholic Priest. Maloney was the one depicted in the mini-series in Carentan.
- Tildon S. McGhee (aka "TS"= for "tough doo doo") Captain and later Major. He too won the DSC. Wounded and briefly taken POW in the fight at Veghel in Holland. He was the Protestant Chaplain. He won his DSC on D-Day at the bridges.
- John R. Hines Captain. Joined the Regiment later in the war at Bastogne. He was a Protestant Chaplain.
Hope this helps.

KidnapEasyWhite (and others),
Thanks a lot for posting those infos about the easy company officers prior to D-Day...
Since you seem to be pretty documented, do you have a list for all the easy NCO's priori to the invasion?
Squad leaders, assistant squad leaders, and the HQ section ones too???
If so and you are willing to share, don't hesitate, ok?
